Arlo Pro 4 Security Camera

The Arlo Pro 4 security camera is quick to setup and use.  But like any tech, it has its upsides, downsides, and bizarro world attributes.

Upside

1. Fast to install
2. Multiple cameras can be installed and viewed on your phone or computer through a WIFI connection
3. Does not need the Arlo SmartHub or Base Station
4. Easy to use

Downside

1. Online and phone support needs to improve
2. If you opt for a battery power, you’ll need to recharge each camera once a month
   • Alternatively:  Install a power outlet near each camera and connect the camera’s power cord to the power outlet
3. Requires a subscription to their monthly service.

Bizarro-world

Nothing bizarre to report.

Price

• Reasonable price at US$200 per camera for a 2K HDR security camera.
• Note 1:  There is a monthly user fee which has a range of US$5 to $US25 depending on how many cameras you install.
• Note 2:  Pricing assumes that you have a WIFI system already installed and it’s connected to the internet.

We purchased our 6 camera system directly through Arlo, just like any retail customer.  By doing so, we’re able to give you our unbiased review and opinion.

If you’re a DIY (Do It Yourself) person, know one, or can hire a handy-person, a 6 security camera setup should take less than 2 hours.

Note:  2K resolution is more than adequate for a security camera system.  Don’t waste your money on a 4K system.

After installing the cameras and configuring the system through the Arlo phone app or their website, we were up and running with no technical help required from Arlo.

With a standard, no frills, WIFI router, you can expect life streaming to extend up to 300 feet in radius from the router.  If your router is located behind thick walls or concrete walls expect the range to be lower.

Conclusions

If you need a multi-camera security system with cloud-based video recording (access anywhere) that’s simple to install, simple to use, and reasonably priced, the Arlo Pro 4 is a good choice.
